As the seventh and last book in the Nature of Desire series, this is a more psychological than physical portrayal of BDSM, and no one tackles the emotion behind it better than Joey Hill. The story does a brilliant job at expressing the multiple facets and complexity of the lifestyle, as misunderstood as it is. I have to be honest and share with you that I'm enamored with the writing style of Joey Hill. It was this series that first hooked me into exploring the world of romantic erotica. I have enjoyed every book in the series and would encourage you to read them, or at least Ice Queen to get a feel for Brandan's story.What I love about this story, and indeed all of Ms Hill's stories, is the portrayal of her characters, in the fact she writes and avoids cliches with great sensitivity and compassion.
Joey is the master of expression. This story is the perfect expression of the stages one goes through when their life has been destroyed and what the journey back to wholeness may feel like. Although the storyline may be unconventional the emotions are powerful and authentic.Ms Hill paces the story slowly giving lots of detail that conveys the carefully controlled emotions that want to be revealed. If you could give 1/2 stars this would be a 3.5 for me. I really wanted to like this book, but after reading Ice Queen, Mirror of my Soul, and Rough Canvas which were to me mind-blowingly good, this was just meh for me. There were a couple things that bothered me - Ok Chloe went through some scary stuff but I'm not sure it warranted the type of spiral into total darkness she was in.
