Appraise Appertaining To Books The Scent of Lemon Leaves

I really enjoyed this book. The fact that it is narrated in first person,divided in Chapters and that in each one, the two main characters, Juliàn and Sandra, have a part where they speak it's really interesting, you can read about two points of view of the same events.I think this novel is a fashinating example of when the present and the past collide.Juliàn is an elderly survivor of the Mauthausen Nazi concentration camp, who suffers from hear disease but goes all the way from Argentina to

I noticed that this novel hasn't gotten very favorable reviews. While I tend to agree that the story is not a page turner, it is written in a literary style, which I am a fan of, and so I gave it four stars for the writing alone. Can't believe how many 5 star reviews this book has. Some reviewers described nail-biting suspense and I wondered why? For me the story was totally implausible and incredibly boring and I couldn't get round to finishing the book as I found I couldn't care less what happened at the end. Sorry Clara, not my cup of tea.

It's more of a 3.5, actually. I wasn't satisfied with the ending, else I would have rated it higher. This book is about a concentration camp survivor wanting to take revenge on the Nazis who escaped the trials. It was translated from Spanish and I believe some of the effects of the writing was lost in the translation, but it didn't bother me much. It was engaging and intriguing right from the beginning, despite what seemed a slow start. Overall a good read.

I received this book through Goodreads- first Reads. I am very glad I did not pay money for this book. It was a huge disappointment. I was expecting drama and intrigue, instead what I got was a play by play report on what an eighty-something year old man had to eat. The other narrator of the story, Sandra, was pretty much useless. This book had an interesting subject matter but I couldnt get past the fact that I it seemed so unlikely that a 30 year old girl would befriend an elderly couple and move in with them. The book seemed to drag as well in the middle with not a lot happening.
