We have loved this series so much, and I didn't think it could get any better, but it did! This book absolutely captivated me, and I could not put it down. The story is gripping, the characters and relationships have continued to develop, and it makes me feel even more drawn into the hope and light to which the key characters all are so passionately committed!I cried and laughed and was absolutely absorbed in this world for a few days, and it has been really fun discussing it with my son who isI got the book today and I couldn't put it down. my heart aches for the darkness but the hope at the end makes it totally worth it!!
Harrowing indeed. Its taken me way too long to get through this but I needed a lot of breaks. I was surprised by the intensity of the book and am realizing my guys will need to wait a bit longer before digging in. But this series is epic and I do look forward to my boys enjoying it too!
K seriously, read this book. I usually dont read for hours on end, but I did with this book. My eyes were glued to the page. It far exceeded expectations and the end left me breathless. Read it.
Ember Rising, the third book in the Green Ember series, is most definitely the darkest out of all the books. It gives the reader a glimpse of what life is like under the rule of Morbin Blackhawk, as slaves. Some of the instances remind me very much of communist Russia. I did find that some parts may not be found appropriate by parents for their younger children. The parts included violence that isn't random or endorsed, but used as a way to teach and condemn cruel governments. You'll be

(And the illustrations, by my respected friend Zach Franzen, were also excellent.)For a good while I was thinking that this book is the Benedict Option for kidsand for adults who dutifully read Dreher's hot-title-of-2017 but whose affections were not fully engaged by his more prosaic approach (which I did find helpfulthis is not a criticism). Ember Rising, by contrast, engages the heart with a stirring story. In this story there is a real evil, real danger, real pain.
Wow. I honestly didn't expect to like this that much. Somehow...I did.I wasn't too impressed with the first book, but did enjoy the second. This is by far the best. The conflict was turned up to eleven and I enjoyed seeing Heather and Picket grow. I had no idea where the plot was going, so hats off to you, Mr. Smith. I do, however, have one major issue with the book (and the entire series, for that matter).I keep forgetting the main characters are rabbits. He doesn't use "paws" to describe their
